The Meteorite center invites you to a cosmic adventure!
Lappajärvi was born 78 million years ago when asteroid that orbited the Sun for about 4.5 billion years crushed with another similar orbit between Mars and Jupiter. As the result, a piece of 1km in diameter crushed the Earth at a cosmic speed (about 10-40km/sec) destroying all life within hundreds of kilometers. The result was a crater: 22km in diameter with deepness of 750 meters, which has later been transformed into Lake Lappajärvi.
Take a journey into Space
Along the way you will see spectacular views and hear stories of planets, asteroids and other celestial bodies.
There are four passenger sits and the entire journey takes 13 minutes. The service is free of charge. You can book the journey to space at the moment only for groups, by phone 040 1948998.
Meteorite Center is located downstairs of the hotel Kivitippu.

The exhibition is divided into eight parts. You can touch real meteors and see a real sample from the Moon.
