Alajärvi - Genuine life amid Aalto legacy. Alajärvi is the only city in the Kraatterijärvi Geopark and the centre of business, education and local services in the Järviseutu region. The city has approximately 9,000 residents. Alajärvi is especially known for architect and designer Alvar Aalto. It is the only place in the world where works by Aalto can be found spanning a period of more than 70 years. One of the town’s notable landmarks is also Alajärvi Church, designed by C. L. Engel and beautifully located by the lake.

Evijärvi - Bigger than You think! Evijärvi is a lively and entrepreneurial municipality which has around 2,300 residents and home to many small businesses and strong expertise in wood processing, plastics, metal and food industries. Evijärvi has a long history of traditional log driving  ie. taking logs along the water ways. This was an annual event until 1960's, and an important source of income. Evijärvi is also home to the observatory of Evijärven Taivastelijat, a local astronomical society.

Lappajärvi - Piece of Heaven. The word Lappajärvi has three meanings: it refers to a crater formed by a asteroid, a lake, and a municipality. Lappajärvi has approximately 2,700 residents and is traditionally known for rugs, metalwork, and tourism. The area is home to industrial production, trade, services, agriculture, and tourism. For lovers of handicrafts, Lappajärvi is a real treasure trove. The local offering includes handicraft supplies, rugs, and beautiful landscape fabrics, including designs inspired by the impact crater.

Vimpeli - Be Like A Hero! Vimpeli is a small but spirited municipality on the eastern shore of Lake Lappajärvi, quite literally on the edge of the crater. The municipality has around 2,500 residents. Vimpeli’s economic structure is exceptionally industry-oriented. The metal industry, family-owned and small businesses, and export-driven companies create jobs and vitality. Vimpeli has a rich history of limestone quarrying that dates back to the mid-1800s. At Saarikenttä, Pesäpallo, the “Finnish baseball” is played in a truly unique and historical setting: the field is located on an island surrounded by the Savonjoki River.
