Experience the unique Crater Lake

Lappajärvi is Europe’s biggest crater lake, which was created 78 million years ago by meteor crash. The effects are still visible and experienced in the area. Impact Crater Lake Lappajärvi UNESCO Global Geopark is a regional area, situated around the Europe's biggest impact crater lake Lappajärvi and the 4 municipalities around the lake (Alajärvi, Evijärvi, Lappajärvi and Vimpeli).

We have lots of sights to visit -  and most of our sights are always open since they are outdoors in the nature. If you drive around the lake, it will take about an hour, so you will get to explore many things as you go. One day visit at the Impact Crater Lake Lappajärvi Geopark area can include exploring the crater rim at Lakeaharju in Vimpeli, learning about meteors at the meteor visiting center in Forenom Hotel Kivitippu in Lappajärvi, enjoying scenic and tranquil nature at Evijärvi Uittomiehenlenkki nature trail or visit famous finnish designer and architect Alvar Aalto locations in Alajärvi.
