KETTLE HOLES IN LEHTIMÄKI VALKEALAMMI

Valkealammi kettle hole landscape in Lehtimäki is a great place to observe some of the outcomes of the ice age. Kettle holes of Valkealammi were formed about 9,000 years ago during the last ice age.

Blocks of dead ice were left behind in Lehtimäki and bottom of the ice was buried inside the sediment which later melted. Depression was left, called a kettle hole.

A stunning  kettle hole terrain can still be seen, although gravel extraction has made the observation of the original holes harder. The largest glacial holes are several tens of meters in diameter.
